LGBTQ Superhero Marriage Equality Memes (Vol. 2)

‘Stormwatch’s’ Apollo and Midnighter Kissing

I enjoyed making the first batch of LGBTQ superhero marriage equality memes so much that I decided to do another. Plus, as Baby Nightsoil pointed out in the comments, there are a few major same-sex comic book couples that I overlooked in the first round.

Just like last time, if there’s one you like, please feel free to pass it around, use it as your profile pic, etc. but please include a link back to my site.

This an excellent project. I’m fairly new to the world of comics, but I’m constantly amazed at the extent that issues of gender and sexuality enter into story lines. It’s strange, in that comics seems to be an area of much innovation (concerning LGBTQ characters/relationships) as well as good-old-fashioned gender stereotyping or reactions against it (thinking about the Hawkeye Initiative, for instance). It’s a fraught discursive space, making it absolutely fascinating.

Thanks! You’re absolutely right about comics being discursive. Traditionally, they’ve been a very creative fringe form of entertainment but they’re also associated with “traditional American values” (think of Superman’s “truth, justice, and the American way”). As such, they attract both very progressive and staunchly traditional creators and fans with very divergent morals.

Love these LGBTQ Superhero Marriage Equality Memes posts, it’s fascinating that comic books explore such polar opposite storylines, typical gender stereotyping vs LGBTQ relationships. Really interesting!

My favorite is still Wiccan/Hulkling, but I may be a little biased there. :D
